Error: "Database Could Not Be Found" (SERVER Computer)
Symptom:
When opening ALLDATA® ManageSM, the following pop-up message appears:

Database could not be found. Please enter the name of the computer that contains the database.
Possible Cause(s):
-
Microsoft SQL Server ALLDATASC is stopped.
-
The Microsoft SQL Server Configuration Manager Settings need to be adjusted.
-
The Firewall is blocking the following components:
-
sqlservr.exe
-
sqlbrowser.exe
-
servicecenter.exe
-
Microsoft updates need to be completed.
-
A bad product installation.
-
Suggested Solution(s):
Go through the following steps on the SERVER computer.
Microsoft SQL Server Configuration Manager
NOTE: The screenshots in this section show Microsoft SQL Server 2005 which is for older versions of ALLDATA Manage (4.7 & 4.8). The process is the same for newer versions of ALLDATA Manage (4.9+), which uses Microsoft SQL Server 2008.

Click on Start >> Programs or All Programs >> Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (or 2008) >> Configuration Tools >> SQL Server Configuration Manager.

Note: If you cannot locate the SQL Server Configuration Manager, please Contact Us for further assistance.

Click on SQL Server 2005 Services (or 2008) on the left column.
-
Right-click over the SQL Server (ALLDATASC) and click on Start or Restart depending on the status.
-
Right-click over the SQL Server Browser and click on Start or Restart depending on the status.
-
Once the Starting service... windows goes away, close the SQL Server Configuration Manager and attempt to open ALLDATA Manage.
Firewall Exceptions
Unfortunately we are unable to document step-by-step procedures for adding exceptions to all firewall manufacturers. Please refer to your firewall manufacturer support for instructions on how to add exceptions or allow programs.

Verify or add the following files to your firewall exceptions or allowed programs list.

Microsoft Updates
It is important to stay current with Microsoft updates as there are important security and program upgrades to help protect your operating system from compromised by viruses, spyware, malware, and other potential threats.
There are a few ways of getting to the Microsoft update site:
Windows XP / Vista

Open Windows Update:
-
From the Desktop: Click Start >> Programs or All Programs >> Windows Update.

From Internet Explorer 9: Click on Safety >> Windows Update.

Click Custom. (If you do not see this option, you may need to update the Windows Update program first)
-
Complete all updates for High Priority and Software.
-
Depending on the type of update(s), a restart may be required after the update has been installed.
-
Continue to keep visiting the Microsoft Update site until the High Priority and Software have zero updates.
-
After all the Microsoft updates have been completed and a restarting of the computer, open ALLDATA Manage.
Windows 7
-
Open Windows Update:

From the Desktop: Click Start >> Programs or All Programs >> Windows Update.

From Internet Explorer 11: Click on Tools >> Windows Update.

Click Check for Updates.
-
Install any available updates.
-
After all the Microsoft updates have been completed and the computer has been restarted, open ALLDATA Manage.
Windows 8.1

Right-click the Windows Start Menu >> select Control Panel
-
Click System and Security.
-
In the Windows Update section, click Check for updates.
-
Install any available updates.
-
After all the Microsoft updates have been completed and the computer has been restarted, open ALLDATA Manage.
Windows 10
-
Click the Windows Start Menu >> select Settings
-
Click System and Security.
-
In the Windows Update section, click Check for updates.
-
Install any available updates.
-
After all the Microsoft updates have been completed and the computer has been restarted, open ALLDATA Manage.
