About Joaquin

My fascination with cars and fixing them began even before I had a driver’s license. At age 14, I was already scouring the automotive classified ads looking for my first set of wheels. One day, I found one – a Mazda B2200 pick-up. The price was low because it had been parked for a while and wouldn’t run.

With the money I earned from a summer job, I bought the truck, towed it home and still had enough left over to buy some parts to get it running… but what parts? At that point I realized I needed to learn how to fix my truck without spending a lot of money. So, my education began. After studying a service manual, I performed a complete tune-up, replaced the gas, and installed a new battery. When I was done, I turned the key, and the engine slowly chugged its way back to life and then started running great. I was officially hooked!

I landed my first job at a transmission shop, just removing and replacing transmissions. After about two months working there, I got a call that would change my career – a job at a Mitsubishi and Suzuki dealership! In less than five years, I had become a Suzuki Gold Certified technician and a Mitsubishi Specialist. During that time, I also achieved an ASE Master certification.

My next job was at a Nissan and Infiniti dealership where I earned both manufacturers’ Master Technician certifications. Working closely with the Nissan factory technical specialists on vehicles with unique problems really enhanced my diagnostic skills. I found that I didn’t always have to follow the diagnostic flow charts. I could be creative and found that understanding the system before I started diagnosing was key.

I have been married for 12 years and have three wonderful children. My afternoons are spent taking my oldest to soccer practice and our weekends are often devoted to soccer tournaments. In the off-season, the family enjoys going to the beach in Monterey where my wife and I grew up.

I am really excited to be part of the ALLDATA Diagnostic Team and look forward to helping ALLDATA techs diagnose and repair vehicles correctly and as quickly as possible.
