Vehicle: 2011 Ford E150, V8-4.6L, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle
Mileage: 96,552
Problem: This Ford E150 was in the shop because the anti-lock brake system (ABS) and traction control system (TRAC) warning lamps were on.
Case Details: The technician’s first move was to connect a scan tool and check for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). He found the following DTCs.
- C1165 - Right Rear (RR) Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS) Input Circuit Failure
- C1235 - Right Rear (RR) Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS) Signal Missing
He replaced the right rear wheel speed sensor (WSS), but the DTCs returned immediately upon cycling the ignition key to the on position. Out of further testing ideas, he called ALLDATA Tech-Assist for some help.
The Tech-Assist consultant sent the technician a wiring diagram (see image) and suggested he load test the circuit between the ABS control module and the right RR WSS. Using the diagram as a guide, the technician found the positive and negative sides of the circuits’ failed load testing. Upon further inspection, he found corrosion inside the rear axle wiring loom.
Confirmed Repair: The wiring was repaired and the DTCs were cleared. A good road test verified the problem was resolved. No ABS or TRAC lights. Fixed!
