Vehicle: 2011 Audi Q5 Quattro (8RB), V6-3.2L (CALB), Automatic Transmission/Transaxle
Mileage: 129,459
Problem: The owner brought his Q5 to the shop because the malfunction indicator light (MIL) and electronic power control (EPC) light were on, the vehicle was in limp mode, and the engine would not rev above 4000rpm.
Case Details: A quick scan tool check of all modules initially revealed multiple diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). The tech cleared the DTCs then rechecked. DTC P11A3 - Cylinder #1 High Lift Electrical Problem came back immediately.
The actual component the DTC is referring to is the camshaft adjuster actuator B, cylinder #1. The factory VAG testing for that DTC is in ALLDATA and the ALLDATA Tech-Assist team recommends reviewing those tests before proceeding with diagnostics.
After quickly reviewing the factory test procedures, the technician tested the camshaft adjuster actuator B, Cylinder #1. It failed. The results were outside the specifications of 5.0-10.0 Ohms @ 68°F (20°C).
Confirmed Repair: A new camshaft adjuster actuator B, Cylinder #1 was installed, the DTC was cleared, and the vehicle road tested to verify the repair. Fixed!
