Vehicle: 2017 Ford Transit 350, L5-3.2L DSL Turbo, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle
Mileage: 64,755 miles
Problem: The owner brought his Transit to the shop because the malfunction indicator light (MIL) came on. There were no drivability issues.
Case Details: After connecting his scan tool, the technician found two diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs):
- P20BA - (DCU) Reductant Heater A Control Performance in the Reductant Dosage Control Module (RDCM).
- P204F - Reductant System Performance (Bank 1)
An ALLDATA Tech-Assist consultant suggested checking the reductant tank heater resistance (part of the level sensor) to be sure it didn’t have an open circuit.
The technician inspected the reductant tank heater as suggested and found it only had 3 Ohms of resistance. He also checked the power and ground. They were both good at the tank heater assembly when activating with the scan tool.
Confirmed Repair: Once he replaced the DEF tank heater (included with level sensor) and cleared the DTCS, the technician took the Transit on a road test. There were no further issues. Fixed!
