Vehicle: 2007 Nissan 350Z, V6-3.5L (VQ35HR), Manual Transmission/Transaxle
Mileage: 136,475 miles
Problem: The owner dropped his 350Z off at the shop for an oil change and summer check-up. It sat on the lot for a couple of days. When the technician went to bring the car into the shop, the engine started and died then would just crank over but not start.
Case Details: The technician found the following diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs):
- P2122 - Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor 1 Circuit Low Input
- P2127 - Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor 2 Circuit Low Input
After a close inspection of the gas pedal, the technician found that the accelerator pedal position sensor bump stop had degraded and broken off the accelerator pedal assembly causing a low closed throttle voltage. This caused the car to go into limp mode upon cranking.
When he did an accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor sweep test with a scan tool, everything looked great except the starting voltage was 0.46 volts.
Confirmed Repair: The technician removed the accelerator pedal assembly for replacement and found a hole in the missing pedal stop. He installed a 4.5-5mm thick bolt/plug and reinstalled the pedal assembly. After the throttle repairs, he cleared the DTCs. The engine started and ran fine, and the technician was able to get back to the oil change and summer check-up. Easy fix!
