TECH TIP!

Case Details: The first thing the technician did was to check for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). He found the following two codes:

  • P1297-00 EGR Slow Response – Decreasing Flow
  • P026C-00 Fuel Injection Quantity Lower Than Expected

Based on the DTCs and a visual inspection, the technician replaced the exhaust gas recycle (EGR) valve and EGR cooler which were full of carbon. He cleared the DTCs, but they quickly returned after a test drive.

A quick call was made to ALLDATA Tech-Assist for some diagnostic advice. The Tech-Assist consultant recommended inspecting for vacuum leaks because they could also cause both those DTCs.

During the inspection, the technician found the cam sensor had a damaged O-ring that could be leaking vacuum.

Confirmed Repair: He replaced the cam sensor O-ring, cleared the DTCs, then went on a long road test. No further issues. Fixed!
