Problem: The customer stated that his vehicle’s tail lamps were not working. Also, when rear defroster was turned to the “On” position, the reverse lamps illuminate and the dome light intermittently came on.

Details: The technician called ALLDATA Tech-Assist for some guidance. Together, the Tech-Assist consultant and the technician reviewed the wiring diagram in ALLDATA Repair to determine that the front and rear lights were powered by the same fuse – so that eliminated the possibility of a blown fuse. The next logical possibility was a splice (S361), which was located under the driver’s seat. That particular splice fed battery voltage to both the front and rear lights.

Confirmed Repair: After pulling back the carpet under the driver’s seat, the technician found a badly corroded splice that had broken and eliminated battery voltage to the rear tail lamps (see image). The splice was repaired and the tail lamp and the other electrical issues were fixed. All lights operated normally.
