TECH TIP
SAAB LOW-BEAMS GOOD, HIGH-BEAMS BAD

Vehicle: 2007 Saab 9-5 (9600) L4-2.3L Turbo Automatic Transmission/Transaxle

Mileage: 122,400

Problem: The low-beam headlights worked fine but the high-beams did not work. The fuses were good. It appears the light switch was working because, when using the fog lights, they go out when turning on the high-beams.

Details: The main relay was providing power to the circuit but there was no power to the fuses for the high-beams. Using the OEM wiring diagram, the tech traced the problem to a headlamp filament (or bulb-check) monitor between the relay and the fuses. When tapping on the unit, the high-beam headlights operated. NOTE: The unit looked like a relay and was orange in color.

Confirmed Repair: Replaced the headlight filament monitor; high-beams operated normally.
