Vehicle: 2010 Kia Forte, L4-2.4L, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle
Mileage: 35,416
Problem: The transmission will not shift out of the park position. You can’t command it to unlock with scan tool. No DTCs.
Details: The tech found the shift interlock solenoid had battery voltage at all times when the key was on. NOTE: The solenoid is grounded through the Body Control Module (BCM). By reviewing the wiring diagrams, the tech confirmed the BCM had the proper power and grounds to operate. The inputs from the gear selector, ignition key input and brake switch input were present. Since all inputs were good, the BCM was condemned.
Confirmed Repair: Installed a new dealer-programmed BCM. The shifter now operates normally.
